METHYLTYRAMINE 101
N-Methyltyramine (also known as NMT) seems to be quite widely distributed in plants. NMT was originally isolated as a natural product for the first time, from germinating barley roots, by Kirkwood and Marion in 1950.
Today, it is widely used in supplements for its cognitive effects!
N-Methyltyramine stimulates the release of Norardrenaline, a neurotransmitter involved in the ‘flight or fight’ response, which in turn will enhance focus and have a mild stimulating effect. N-Methyltyramine (NMT) can also increase the activity of dopaminergic, adrenergic and serotonergic neurotransmitters, which can play a role in mental energy, mood and contribute antidepressant-like effects.†
